We 8: Camp Fun! (Story of DAY ONE)

DAY ONE
On the way to Camp Omatua, We stopped at the Puketapu domain.  The only piece of playground equipment I went on was the flying fox.  Mrs Love called us in and told us to get back in our car groups.  In my car was Zane, Monica and Mya.  At about 10:45, we arrived at Camp Omatua.  The very fist thing we did was go for a boundary walk.  After that, we set up our sleeping quarters.  My dorm was Brown, and in my dorm was George, Zane (again) and Oscar J.  After that we started to make our dinner.  2 groups started to make their fires, and the other 3 made their dinner.  We did dinner making.  In my group was Faith, Deegan, Amie, Bella (The Child leader) and Aaron, our adult.  First thing to make : Meatballs.  The five Ingredients were onions, mince, tomato sauce, breadcrumbs and egg.  After it was all mixed in, we had to make them in the shape of meatballs.  Bella, Faith and Amie would not touch the mixture because they thought it was it felt like a dogs dinner, but me, Deegan and Aaron started to make meatballs.  We made at lest 100 meatballs altogether.  Then it was time to do our potatoes.  After choosing a potato, we dipped the potatoes in water and washed them.  Once they were washed, we wrapped them up in 3 layers of tinfoil.  Then we started to make dessert.  Holding a wine biscuit in one hand, and two marshmallows in the other, I put one marshmallow on the biscuit.  Then I put in the other marshmallow on the biscuit.  Next I put my second wine biscuit on top of the two marshmallows, which were on top of the other wine biscuit.  Another layer of tinfoil went on the biscuits.  Me and my group ran down the stairs to start building our fire. After collecting timber, kindling and fuel wood, we built our fire.  Everyone was then called into the courtyard, and Mrs Love said we were going to start building our contraptions.  Our contraption was made out of sticks, leaves and bamboo.  Later we went up to get changed into our togs.  As I got dressed I was feeling very confident that our contraption would hold up.  The explanation of the contraption was that somebody had Injured themselves very badly, and the contraption was to carry them.  The aim of it was to carry that person across the river without them getting wet.  When our turn came I was still feeling confident.  The person on the contraption was Faith.  As we entered the water my legs felt like they were made out of hot sand and the sand was just melting away.  That last sentence means only one word: COLD.  In the end, our team was the only team that lost.  At about 4:00 we were allowed a free swim.  I only touched the river once, then jumped out like a kangaroo.  After about 10 minutes Mrs Love said we had to get out.  Once every one was dressed, we did a sound off.  It was about 5:17 around then.  Finally, for the first time at camp this year, we were allowed 43 minutes of free time.  Once the whistle blew, we had to report to the courtyard, where we did another sound off.  Suddenly all the muscles in my body went still: we were going to make our spaghetti and meatballs.  At first, my groups fire wouldn't work.  Only one thing happened: smoke drifted out of the top of the fire.  But finally, it started going.  Mrs Love said that she was starting a game of ABC bullrush.  Everyone expect me and Jenny-Lee played.  About half an hour later, dinner was ready.  I tucked into it instantly.  IT WAS SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS!  The meatballs were tasty, the spaghetti was cooked perfectly and the potato's were right on schedule.  After eating the delicious biscuits and marshmallows (I call them Marshcuits) I said to myself "good stuffing".  We went up to get dressed in pyjamas.  After listening to a bit of "James and the giant peach" by Roald Dahl, we went to bed.
